GJ - Day 5: Opinion

This time I played more expansionist than Genghis Khan. The entire point of the game was to RAISE POPULATION, NOTHING MATTERS MORE THAN POPULATION. I ended up with around 45 settlers, who all soon died due to lack of sufficient oxygen production.

I don't care for this game, however it is amazing and I see why people like it. I, personally, dislike fast paced realtime strategy games, though others might. The game has its flaws, as I experienced a crash or two, though that may have been due to the other programs I was running in the background.

Now for a few screenshots:

The first picture is setting up basic facilities because I am uncreative, the second is my base before I started putting something along the lines of 10 landing pads down.

GJ - Day 4: Plan

Today, the plan is to move from mere self-sufficency, to a point where I can safely expand, with a goal of five more settlers. To do this I will need to:

1. Establish larger power facilities

2: Expand my food production capabilities

3: Build another dorm and add several more beds.

Last time I played, a meteor hit one of my power collectors, and I completely ran out of metal, couldn't repair it, and everyone died. This time, I'll try decentralizing my power sources as to allow for greater ease in recovery from such an event, as well as building more mines.

Notes:

DECENTRALIZE POWER.

Build several mines and metal processors.

MORE STARCH PLANTS.

Today, I did everything I took notes on, and managed to get five more settlers.

GJ - Day 3: Review

I chose to play extremely expansionist. I generally chose the smallest size for buildings, though I made the Biodome and power facilities the largest size, so that my settlers could survive more easily. I had about 4 food plants and 4 starch plants, which I needed a lot of in order to make bioplastic. My main goal is to create a self-sufficient colony with room for expansion.

Friday Post June 3

To create the thing shown in the Friday post here , you could probably put an if _____ then code with the code for the square inside it. I'm not exactly sure how to make the ball bounce around, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Link to Sketchup: http://www.sketchup.com/

To use:

1. Click the big red download button

2. Double click the Sketchup.msi file

3. Allow the installation wizard to guide you through the installation

Now to explain 4 tools.

Tool #1: Push/Pull

To use this, select a face of the object, click and drag. You can also enter a dimension on your keyboard, i.e. 40" for exact measurements.

Tool #2: Measuring tape

You use the measuring tape to create guides for shapes.

Really, you use it in the same way as the push/pull tool, except you select an edge instead of a face. Again, you can enter in a dimension on your keyboard.

Tool #3: Rectangle tool

Use this to create a rectangle, which you can modify with the push/pull tool

You click and drag to use it. You can also enter in a set of dimensions, in the format of 40cm,30cm

Tool #4: Offset tool

Use this to create an offset rectangle, which counts as a seperate "Face"

Use it the same as everything else, click and drag inwards or outwards, enter in a dimension.

GJ - Day 2 - Preview

Hello, today I will be explaining how to set up a colony in Planetbase.

I would probably recommend setting up a medium solar panel, a medium wind turbine, a small power generator, and a Water Extractor. Then, build an Oxygen Generator and an Airlock. This will allow your colonists to breathe. After that, connect a small Canteen to the Generator, and place a 4 person table, a drinking fountain, and a meal machine. After all that, build a Biodome and connect it to the Canteen. In the Biodome, place one starchy plant, two vegetables, and a medicine plant. These will become important later. At this point, your colonists are probably tired. Build a dorm and put 4 bunk beds in it to allow all of your colonists to sleep. Now, build a Lab and place two Tissue Synthesizers and one Workshop. Change one of the Tissue Synthesizers to produce either Beef or Pork so that your colonists do not die of malnutrition.

I would do things differently than the tutorial, which tells you to place an oxygen generator and an airlock first. This is a bad idea.

Everything died when a meteor hit my oxygen generator and I didn't have the resources to repair it before everybody asphyxiated. If I were to do this again, I would focus on getting resource production and processing up and running as the first priority after my colonist's basic needs.

The screenshots are pictures of building all the various structures required to survive.

GJ - DAY 1 - Reveal

We are talking about a game called "Planetbase" today. The game begins when your settlers land on another planet.
You must establish a new colony, facing off against the many dangers.
The game appears to be a basic RTS with no conflict against other people, aliens, or maybe competing colonies. The only dangers you will face will be natural.
The goal of the game seems to be to build the biggest and best colony, while surviving the natural disasters.
